NEW LONDON, CT - The Amherst College women's hockey team fell at NESCAC foe Connecticut College Friday night, 3-2, dropping to 2-5 overall and 2-5 in conference play while Conn. improves to 3-3-1 overall (2-3 NESCAC).
Amherst jumped out to an early lead when rookie forward Anna MacLean (Edina, MN) scored off an assist from fellow rookie forward Lindsey Harrington (Westford, MA). Conn. answered when sophomore Jill Mauer tallied a short-handed goal, and the Camels added to the lead in the second stanza when Kristin Van Slyke scored on the power-play from Erin Wing and Lauren Gosnell.
Connecticut padded the lead in the third period again on the power play when Suzie Connor scored from Mauer a minute into the final session. Rookie forward Tarasai Karega (Detroit, MI) pulled the Jeffs within one on the power play notching her seventh goal of the season at the nine-minute mark. Senior tri-captain Renee Sisti (Coventry, CT) and junior defenseman Tes Siarnecki (Gardener, MA) collected the assists.
Connecticut senior goaltender Gabby Petrill made 49 saves, while Amherst sophomore Stacey Johnston (Kingston, ON) made 29 saves for the Jeffs.
Amherst returns to action Friday, January 6th at 4:30 p.m. when it travels to NESCAC rival Hamilton College.
