Amherst's Karega Wins 2006 NCAA Division III Statistical Champion Award

AMHERST, MA – Amherst College first-year women's ice hockey forward Tarasai Karega (Detroit, MI) earned a 2006 NCAA Division III Statistical Champion Award on Monday after leading the nation in power-play goals this season. Karega notched nine power-play scores on the year en route to 21 points on 16 goals and five assists.

She also finished tied for third in the nation and second in the NESCAC with a trio of short-handed scores, while placing fifth in the conference in goals (16) and 18th in points (21). Her 21 points were the 23rd-most of any rookie in the country and the seventh-most of any in the NESCAC.

The Amherst women's hockey team finished with a record of 10-15 (6-10 NESCAC), earning the No. 5 seed in the conference postseason tournament, where they fell at fourth-seeded Colby, 4-2.
