MIDDLEBURY, VT – The Amherst College women's hockey team suffered a 4-1 loss at second-ranked Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Jeffs fall to 9-13 on the season and 5-10 in conference while the Panthers improve to 20-2 overall and (13-1 NESCAC).
Middlebury got on the board early when Emily Quizon came around the net and beat Amherst sophomore netminder Stacey Johnston (Kingston, ON) with a snap shot. The Jeffs answered back when junior defenseman Rachel Simon (West Orange, NJ) scored on a rebound with junior forward Alena Harrison (Westwood, MA) and sophomore forward Megan Quinn (Wakefield, MA) tallying assists on the score.
It only took 38 seconds for the Panthers to score in the second session when Annemari Cellino sent a shot from the point that Shannon Sylvester tucked home on the power-play. Shannon Tarrant also notched an assist on the score.
Sylvester banged home her own rebound midway through the third period to push the Panther's lead and Quizon scored two minutes later to put the Jeffs on ice.
Johnston finished with 29 saves while Middlebury goalie Kate Kogut made13 saves.
Amherst returns to action next Friday, February 17th when they host NESCAC foe Connecticut College at 7 p.m.
