Jeffs Edged at Holy Cross, 3-2

WORCESTER, MA - Despite game-tying goals by seniors Tory Serues (Cambridge, MA) and Ali White (Brookline, MA), the Amherst College women's hockey team fell to 8-10 with a narrow 3-2 loss at non-league foe Holy Cross on Tuesday. Amherst rookie netminder Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, NJ) collected 22 saves in defeat.

Holy Cross scored the lone goal of the first period as first-year Melissa Flanagan found the net at the 7:24-mark. Serues answered for the Jeffs with an unassisted tally in the second frame. The Crusaders regained the lead with a power-play goal from sophomore Kolt Bloxson seven minutes into the final session, but White evened the score once again off assists from first-year Tes Siarnacki (Gardner, MA) and sophomore Renee Sisti (Coventry, CT). Holy Cross sophomore Kate Remsberg netted the game-winner just 29 seconds later, putting the Crusaders up 3-2. The Jeffs pulled Grabowski in the final seconds but could not find the net as they drop their third straight.

First-year goalie Casey McCullion collected 21 saves as Holy Cross improved to 9-8-1.

Amherst returns to action Saturday at 3 p.m. at non-conference foe SUNY Cortland.
