Jeffs Win Season Opener 5-1 at Trinity

WEST HARTFORD, CT - First-year Alena Harrison (Westwood, MA) netted a hat trick in her first career game as the Amherst College women's ice hockey team defeated NESCAC rival Trinity College 5-1 in its season opener Friday night. Harrison lit the lamp just 1:20 into the first period off an assist from junior Sarah Mason (Minneapolis, MN). Dickoff doubled the Jeff lead nearly eight minutes later off assists from Harrison and senior Ali White (Brookline, MA). 11:01 into the first period, Trinity sophomore Tara Borawski found senior co-captain Jillian Nelson for the host Bantam's lone goal of the game. Harrison added her second goal in the second period and completed the hat trick in the third off a feed from White. Kaplan capped the scoring late in the third period off assists from first-year Kirsten Forsberg (Kenilworth, IL) and senior co-captain Amanda Muller (Princeton, NJ).

Amherst first-year netminder Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, NJ) collected 22 saves in her first career start in goal, and Trinity senior co-captain Mimi MacKinnon tallied 36 of her own in the loss. The Bantams fall to 0-1 (0-1 NESCAC), while the Jeffs begin their season 1-0 (1-0 NESCAC) for the first time in three years.
