Jeffs Blanked at Fourth-Ranked Middlebury, 7-0

MIDDLEBURY, VT - The Amherst College women's ice hockey team fell 7-0 at fourth-ranked NESCAC rival Middlebury College on Saturday. The Panthers improved to 13-3 overall (10-1 NESCAC) behind a hat trick from sophomore forward Emily Quizon. Amherst first-year goalie Lindsay Grabowski (Princeton, NJ) collected 31 saves as the Jeffs fell to 8-9 (4-9 NESCAC).

Quizon netted the lone score of the first period on the power play, and after assisting on a goal by first-year Abby Kurtz-Phelan, scored her second goal, unassisted, at the 10:07-mark of the second frame. Middlebury junior Laura Gifis and first-year Shannon Tarrant pushed the Panthers' lead to 5-0 and Quizon closed the second period, completing the hat trick with an unassisted short-handed score. Sophomore Elizabeth Johnston capped Middlebury's scoring with a goal at the 15:58-mark.

Amherst was outshot 38-10 by the host Panthers, and Middlebury senior Kati Madouros stopped all 10 Jeffs shots for the shutout.

Amherst returns to action Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at non-conference foe Holy Cross.
