BRUNSWICK, ME - The Amherst College women's ice hockey team fell 5-0 at fifth-ranked NESCAC rival Bowdoin College on Friday night. First-year goalie Lindsay Grabowski nabbed 46 saves in net as the Jeffs dropped to 3-5 (2-5 NESCAC) with the loss.
The host Polar Bears outshot the Jeffs 51-13 and improved to 4-3-1 (3-0 NESCAC) with the win. Bowdoin jumped on top early as senior forward Gillian McDonald scored just 31 seconds into play. Bowdoin first-year Meghan Gillis pushed the lead to 2-0 at the 1:22-mark off an assist from first-year Katie Forney and first-year Kate Leonard. Gillis returned the favor dishing out an assist to Leonard in the second period. The Polar Bears tacked on two more goals in the final session as seniors Jen Pelkey and Britney Carr found the net. Sophomore goalie Natalie Morgan posted the shutout and collected 13 saves.
Amherst returns to action tomorrow at 3 p.m. at NESCAC rival Colby College.
