AMHERST, MA - The Amherst College women's hockey team dropped its regular-season finale to visiting conference foe Hamilton College, 5-2, Saturday night at Orr Rink. Despite the loss, the Jeffs claimed the seventh and final spot in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament and will face second-seeded Middlebury College on Saturday. It also marked the final home contest for co-captain seniors Danielle Williams (Needham, MA) and Heidi Alexander (Edina, MN).
After a scoreless first period, the Continentals erupted for three goals in the second. The flurry began 4:26 into the stanza when rookie forward Jane Bradley (Casselman, ONT) gathered her own rebound and tickled the twine. Moments later, sophomore forward Marissa Halligan (West Haven, CT) tallied the first of her two scoring strikes. Shortly thereafter, first-year forward Zoe Baldwin (Nepean, ONT) scored shorthanded, giving the visitors a 3-0 advantage heading into the third.
Down 4-0 midway through the final session, rookie forward Leah Kaplan (Buffalo, NY) stole the puck and scored on a breakaway to negate the shutout. Bradley added her second goal before Jeff junior forward Ali White (Brookline, MA) chipped in a rebound to round the scoring out at 5-2.
Alexander was stellar in net and finished with 31 saves, while senior Jen Kroleski (New Rochelle, NY) was equally impressive and notched 30 for Hamilton. With the loss, the Jeffs fall to 3-16-4 overall and 2-11-3 in conference play while the Continentals take the fourth-seed in the tournament, improving to 13-9 and 10-6.
