Jeffs Fall at Bowdoin, 4-0, in the First Round of the NESCAC Championship Tournament

BRUNSWICK, ME - The Amherst women's hockey team fell at Bowdoin College, 4-0, in the first round of the NESCAC Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears tallied a trio of third-period goals en route to the victory and improve to 20-3-1, advancing to the NESCAC semifinals. Despite making their first ever postseason appearance, the Jeffs' season comes to an end at 6-15-1. Amherst will look to rebound next year loosing just one senior to graduation, veteran tri-captain defender Hilary Zwerdling (Shrewsbury, MA).

Junior Heidi Alexander (Edina, MN) turned in a strong performance in net for the Jeffs, turning away a barrage of early Bowdoin shots as the game remained scoreless through the opening period. The Polar Bears pierced the scoring column 7:55 into the second period as Shelly Chessie knocked home a rebound giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Bowdoin then added to their lead 3:54 into the second period when Jen Pelkey fired a one-timer past Alexander. Beth Muir flipped a bouncing puck over Alexander's shoulder 6:42 into the final period and Gillian McDonald tallied 12 seconds later to round out the scoring at 4-0. Emily McKissock made 11 saves in the shutout victory while Alexander finished with 33.
