Amherst Second Among NESCAC Qualifiers, Third Overall at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Amherst College women's golf has put themselves in a great position to qualify for the 2020 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championship, as the Mammoths sit in second place after Day 1 at Taconic Golf Course.

The top four NESCAC teams will qualify for next spring's championship. This is the first year that NESCAC women's golf has had a fall qualifier for a spring championship, with the championship previously held in the fall.

Amherst shot a 318 overall and sits just six shots back of host Williams in the NESCAC competition. Overall for the simultaneous Williams Invitational, the Mammoths are in third place, one stroke back of Wellesley.

Junior Isabelle Ouyang is tied for fourth place among all golfers after shooting a 77 on Day 1. Two strokes back is senior Morgan Yurosek, who is tied for ninth place.

India Gaume '22 fired a Saturday round of 80 (T-11), while Katie Mina Lee '22 carded an 82 to tie for 20th.

First year Janelle Jin shot 87 and is in a tie for 34th place.

Amherst's two individual competitors, Emily Young '20 and Lily Worden '21, are both tied with Mina Lee for 20th place after opening their tournaments with rounds of 82.

Day 2 gets underway with a shotgun start on Sunday at 9:00 AM.
