POUGHKEEPSKIE, N.Y. – Led by Sooji Choi '14, the Amherst women's golf team opened its spring season with a sixth-place finish at the Vassar College Invitational.
Posting a two-day total of 669 at the Casperkill Golf Club's par-72, 5,800-yard course, the Jeffs carded a team-total of 338 on day one before turning a score of 331 on Sunday afternoon. Placing four student-athletes in the top-10 of the individual rankings, Williams took home the team title with a score of 633 (319-314).
Ithaca's Sharon Li and SUNY Cortland's Rebecca Studin tied for a tournament-low total of 154 with their teams finishing second (650) and third (658), respectively. Winning the ensuing playoff, Studin wrestled away the individual crown. New York University took fourth-place with a two-day 662, followed by Middlebury (665) and Amherst (669).
Shooting an 83 during the first round, Choi shaved three strokes off her total the second time around, posting an 80 over the final 18 holes to tie for 11th overall. Jamie Gracie '17 also enjoyed a solid second day, matching Choi's 80 after recording an 86 in round one.
Teammates Devyn Gardner '16 and Jenny Xu '16 tied for 24th overall with a two-day total of 170. Gardner carded an 83 and 87 in the tournament's two rounds, with Xu turning in an 86 and 84. Patricia Huang '17 rounded out the list of Amherst competitors with a two-round score of 176 (87-89).
Amherst will host the annual Jack Leaman Invitational on Apr. 19-20.
