Jeffs Open Spring Slate with Narrow Loss to Wellesley College in Kiawah Island, SC

KIAWAH ISLAND, SC - The Amherst College women's golf team opened its spring 2003 slate with a dual match against Wellesley College in sunny Kiawah Island, South Carolina. Playing at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Turtle Point Golf Course - home to several important championships, including the Carolinas' Amateur, the Carolinas' PGA, the South Carolina Amateur and the 1990 PGA Cup Matches - the Jeffs fell to Wellesley by a narrow 374-359 margin, despite a number of noteworthy individual performances. 

Senior co-captain Katie Gravel (New Hampton, NY) and standout sophomore Meg Sullivan (Northampton, MA) fired matching scores of 91 to lead the Jeffs. Sophomore All-American Emily Foran (Dallas, PA) covered the par 72 track in 92 strokes. Senior co-captain Jeannie Limpert (Washington, DC) and sophomore Sarah Godwin (Swarthmore, PA) shot matching rounds of 100, while rookie Melissa Sidman (Bethesda, MD) rounded out the Amherst contingent with a score of 101. 

Amherst returns to action with a recent addition to its schedule - the Brown University Invitational, April 12-13 in Providence, RI.
