HADLEY, Mass. – Junior guard Hannah Fox was named New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's basketball Player of the Week this afternoon after her record-breaking performance over December break.
Fox broke a program record with a 43 point performance against Westfield State at the D3Hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas. Her 43-point effort also broke the record for scoring at the tournament, now in its ninth year, and she was named D3Hoops Classic Most Outstanding Player at the conclusion of the week.
The preseason All-America was 19-25 from the field, shattering the Amherst record of made field goals (previously 14) and added 12 rebounds for a double-double in the 104-79 victory, the first time since 2011 that Amherst women's basketball has topped the 100-point plateau.
In four games on the West Coast road trip, Fox averaged 21.3 points per game, 7.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.3 steals. The Mammoths went 4-0 in those games and are now 10-1 on the season as they prepare to begin NESCAC play on Friday at Trinity (7 PM).
One of three Mammoths to start all eleven games so far this year, Fox is averaging 19.7 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest, as well as 3.7 assists and 2.5 steals. She has scored in double-figures in 10 games, and has scored 20+ points on four occasions, including a 33-point performance at Emmanuel on November 27th, which earned her a first NESCAC Player of the Week award on December 3rd.
