No. 3/2 Amherst Downs Lebanon Valley, 73-38

AMHERST, Mass. – Marley Giddins '16 poured in a game-high and collegiate career-high 28 points to lead the No. 3/2 Amherst College women's basketball team to a 73-38 non-conference victory over Lebanon Valley College Sunday afternoon at LeFrak Gymnasium.

  • Amherst shot an impressive 48.3% from the field and 40% from three-point range, and held Lebanon Valley to just 19% shooting from the floor. The Purple & White held a 45-37 edge in rebounds, outscored the Flying Dutchmen, 42-18 in the paint, and edged the visitors, 21-17 in points off the bench.
  • Giddins was a sensational 13-for-14 from the field en route to her 28-point effort. Meredith Doswell '17 and Ali Doswell '17 finished with nine points each, while J.J. Daniell '19 and Cheyenne Pritchard '16 chipped in seven each off the bench.
  • Giddins led all players with 11 points, and Meredith Doswell added 10 boards, while Jaimie Renner '17 and Meredith Doswell combined to hand out 11 assists. Giddins and Meredith Doswell also provided three and four blocks respectively.
  • Kelly Rachel led Lebanon Valley with eight points on 3-for-5 shooting from the field, while Kiely Chaklos netted six points on the strength of 4-for-4 efficiency at the free throw line. Taylor Troutman and Taylor Umbrell each posted a team-high six rebounds, while Lexie Lantz added five boards.


  • Amherst scored the first four points of the contest on layups by Giddins and Hackley, and cruised to a commanding 14-2 lead in the first 5:58 of the first quarter.
  • Lebanon Valley was able to score eight of the next 14 points, to set the score at 22-10 following 10 minutes of play.
  • In the second quarter, the Purple & White held the Flying Dutchmen to just eight points en route to a 36-18 cushion at intermission. Amherst led by as many as 18 with 1:58 to play in the second stanza following a bucket underneath by Meredith Doswell.
  • The Purple & White shot 45.5% from the floor led by a 16-point effort from Giddins, while Meredith Doswell collected seven points and seven rebounds.


  • In a closely contested third quarter, Amherst held a 16-11 edge to run its lead in the contest to 52-29 after three quarters.
  • In the fourth stanza, the Purple & White pulled away using a seven-point effort from both Giddins and Daniell as Amherst was able to secure its 73-38 victory.


  • The Purple & White, who never trailed in Sunday's contest, extend their home winning streak to 116 games.


  • Amherst returns to action Tuesday, January 12 at Baruch College for a 6 p.m. non-league tilt.
  • Lebanon Valley is back on the court on January 13 when it hosts Widener University at 6 p.m. in Annville, Pa.
