FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Megan Robertson '15 and Ali Doswell '17 posted double-doubles to lead the third-ranked Amherst women's basketball team to its 14th consecutive win on Monday night as the Jeffs defeated Farmingdale State, 77-50, in a non-conference road game.
Amherst improved to 14-0 on the season while dropping the Rams to 5-6.
Robertson scored a team-high 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting and pulled in a game-high 12 rebounds to lead the Jeffs. Doswell recorded 14 points and grabbed 10 boards and Marley Giddins '16 joined them in double-figures with 10 points. She also added another eight rebounds as Amherst outrebounded Farmingdale State, 50-29.
As a team, Amherst shot 50% (31-for-62) from the field, 52.4% (11-for-21) from downtown, and 100% (4-for-4) from the line.
Camille Romero '15 led all scorers with a game-high 21 points for the Rams while Nicky Young '14 added 12. The Jeffs held Farmingdale State to 29.3% (17-for-58) shooting from the floor, 0.0% (0-for-3) from behind-the-arc, and 53.3% (16-for-30) at the line.
The Rams scored the first basket of the game but it was their only lead as Amherst retaliated and scored 10 straight following a three-pointer from Cheyenne Pritchard '16. After a lay-up from the sophomore guard several minutes later, the Jeffs held their first double-digit lead at the 13:47 mark, up 15-5.
Amherst led by as much as 15 in the first half but a jumper from Romero with three seconds to go before the break cut the deficit to 13 as the Jeffs held a 39-26 lead at halftime.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Doswell gave the Jeffs a 14-point lead followed by a three-pointer from Haley Zwecker '16 as they led 44-27 with 18:19 remaining in regulation. It was all Amherst the rest of the way as Jaime Renner '17 hit one from downtown to give the Jeffs a 30-point cushion at the 1:55 mark, their largest lead of the game, as they cruised to the 27-point victory.
Amherst returns to the court on Friday, Jan. 17 for a road contest at Tufts. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
