MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Amherst women's basketball team saw its playoff hopes come to a screeching halt with a 69-57 setback at Wesleyan University on Saturday. The loss left the Jeffs out of the eight-team NESCAC Tournament field at 12-11 overall and 2-7 in conference play.

Things looked good early on as the Jeffs held a 29-27 lead at halftime. Wesleyan outscored Amherst 42-28 in the second half, however, shooting a scorching 52.2% (12-for-23) after the break.

Amherst placed two players in double figures, junior Shannon Russell (Shrewsbury, MA) with 15 points and senior Sarah Walker (W. Hartford, CT) with 14. Walker also pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.

Wesleyan was led by Kamica Lewis and Amy Posocco, who poured in 22 and 13 points respectively. The Cardinals finish their regular season at 20-3 overall and 7-2 in the NESCAC, marking the first 20-win season in the history of the program. They earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming NESCAC Tournament, which is set to tip off next Saturday.
