Russell Shoots Jeffs Past WPI, 70-61, in OT

WORCESTER, MA - Junior sharpshooter Shannon Russell (Shrewsbury, MA) poured in a team-high 21 points on the strength of five three-pointers to lead the Amherst College women's basketball team to a 70-61 overtime victory at WPI on Monday night. The Jeffs improved to 2-0 with the non-league win, while WPI fell to 1-3. 

With the score tied 56-56 at the end of regulation, Amherst outscored the Engineers 14-5 in overtime to seal the win. Senior tri-captain point guard Sara Bozorg (Amherst, MA) joined Russell in double figures with 11 points, and filled the box score with seven steals, five assists and five rebounds. First-year center Katie Latham (Wakefield, MA) notched her second double-double in as many games with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Allison Wing paced WPI with a game-high 24 points. 

Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. at non-league foe Keene State.
