NORTHAMPTON, MA - The Amherst women's basketball team rebounded from Saturday's non-league loss at Williams College with a 62-41 win at Smith College on Monday night. Junior Shannon Russell (Shrewsbury, MA) led all scorers with 17 points and senior Sara Bozorg (Northampton, MA) added a dozen as the Jeffs improved to 9-1.
Amherst shot 46.2% (24-for-52) overall and 53.3% (8-for-15) from three-point range while nearly doubling the Pioneers' rebounding output, 43-21, including a 29-14 margin on the defensive glass. Junior center Caitlin Farrell (Lafayette, CA) continued her strong play with nine points and a game-high nine boards after tying career-highs with 12 points and five blocks and pulling down a career- and game-high 15 rebounds on Saturday.
Smith placed three players in double figures, led by Dasen Woitkowski's 12 points.
Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. against visiting Babson College before opening conference play Friday at 7 p.m. against visiting Colby College.
