Salustri, Trezza Garner NFCA All-Region Accolades

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Amherst softball had two members voted to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Region team with Sammy Salustri '19 garnering First Team selection and Nicole Trezza '21 landing on the Third Team, as announced by the NFCA Wednesday afternoon.

The NFCA selected 364 players for the 2019 NCAA Division III All-Region softball teams with the squad comprised of three 15 player teams -- plus voting ties -- in each of the country's eight NCAA regions.

Salustri returns to the NFCA All-Region ballot after garnering second team recognition during her sophomore campaign in 2017. The two-time NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year (2016, 2017) finished this season fourth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) for batting average with a .396 and held a .983 fielding percentage, tinted by a highlight-reel back handed glove flip into a double play during their 7-0 shutout over Middlebury.

Last week, Salustri was also selected to the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Softball Team which is an award nominated and voted on by sports information directors within the region and across the country. The Pleasanton, California native is a three-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree and recently made her third all-conference team appearance as a member of the First Team.

Trezza makes her first appearance on the NFCA All-Region stage after boasting an impressing sophomore season that landed her on the All-NESCAC Second Team. Trezza tied Salustri at fourth in the conference for batting average at .396 and tied for second in the NESCAC for stolen bases at 22, which was one behind the conference leader.

Trezza finished her season with 36 hits and marked an on-base percentage of .461 while also notching a career-high four steals in the second game of their doubleheader against Smith College. The Mountainside, New Jersey native also added a .971 fielding percentage and 26 runs.

All-Region players are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. First team All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America team, which will be announced the evening of May 22 online at and in person at the NCAA Division III Championship banquet in Tyler, Texas.
