HADLEY, Mass. – Three members of the Amherst softball team landed conference honors as Sammy Salustri '19 was selected All-NESCAC First Team while Nicole Trezza '21 and Lorena Ukanwa '19 earned Second Team accolades, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
Salustri, a two-time NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year (2016, 2017), earns her third All-NESCAC honor. Salustri ranked fourth among the NESCAC batting leaders with a .396 average and had a .983 fielding percentage. She totaled 40 hits, including three games notching four apiece, and added 11 stolen bases for Amherst this season.
Ukanwa, who was selected for the watch list of the NFCA Division III Player of the Year at the beginning of the season, garners her third conference accolade. The Morgan Hill, California native notched First Team All-NESCAC and NFCA First Team All-Region just a season ago. Ukanwa finished second in the conference for strikeouts with 109 and fourth in earned run average (ERA) at 1.82. The Mammoth captured a season high 10 strikeouts during the season opener against Susquehanna and finished the season with three shut outs.
Nicole Trezza '21 makes her first appearance on the NESCAC ballot after impressing during her sophomore campaign, tying Salustri in batting average at .396 which is good for top-five in the conference. Trezza also tied for second in the NESCAC in stolen bases at 22, just one behind the league leader and totaled out at 36 hits and an on base percentage of .461. Trezza had a career –high four steals in the second game of the Mammoths doubleheader against Smith College while adding two hits and three runs.
