HADLEY, Mass. -- First year RonnieMarie Falasco delivered arguably the biggest hit of the year for the Amherst College softball team on Saturday, and today she has been named the Player of the Week by the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC).
Falasco played the hero for Amherst with a three-run walk-off home run as the Mammoths swept a doubleheader from rival Williams College on Saturday. It was the third home run of the week for the first year catcher/utility player, who collected six hits in ten at bats and drove in seven runs.
She went yard twice in a 12-0 win at Smith during the week, and ended the week with a .600 average and a 1.500 slugging percentage.
In her first year as a collegiate athlete, Falasco is hitting .424 with four home runs, leading the squad in both categories. She is also at the top of the squad in on-base percentage (.512) and slugging percentage (.939), and her 18 RBIs are good for second behind fellow first year Audrey Hansen.
Amherst hits the field on Wednesday in New Hampshire for a non-conference doubleheader against Keene State University. First pitch is penciled in for 3:30 pm.
