CLERMONT, Fla. – The Mammoths continued to roll Wednesday in Claremont, Fla. as the No. 7 Amherst College softball team picked up a pair of wins against Pomona-Pitzer (4-1) and Roger Williams (10-0) to remain perfect on the season.
The Mammoths hit the field once again tomorrow, Thursday, Match 15 when they battle UMASS-Dartmouth and FDU-Florham in a doubleheader beginning at 9 a.m.
GAME ONE: Amherst 4, Pomona-Pitzer 1
A big opening inning by the Mammoths proved to be the difference maker as Amherst tallied three runs in the bottom of the first to drive the home team to a 4-1 win.
The sides traded runs in the third, with Olivia Campion singling to center to score Missy Pekarek in the top half of the inning before Amherst countered with an Alyson Plaman '21 sacrifice grounder.
Gina Pagan was the winner in the circle for Amherst, tossing all seven innings and allowing nine hits, one run and striking out eight.
GAME TWO: Amherst 10, Roger Williams 0 (5 innings)
The Mammoths made quick work of Roger Williams in game two of the day, recording four runs in the first, five more in the second and an insurance run in the third to earn the 10-0 shut out victory in five innings.
Lorena Ukanwa '19 (3-0) claimed the win in the circle for Amherst, allowing just one hit and whiffing nine batters in 5.0 innings.
