Summers Named NESCAC Player of the Week

Hadley, Mass. - Senior outfielder Taylor Summers of the Amherst College softball team has been named NESCAC Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday.

A native of Upper Saddle River, N.J., Summers was a crucial component for the Purple & White in its final five games of the regular season, helping Amherst clinch the No. 2 seed in the NESCAC West and return to the NESCAC Championship tournament for the first time since 2012.

A driving force both offensively and defensively, the centerfielder finished the week 9-for-19 in the batters box to record a .474 batting average and registered a perfect fielding percentage, notching 17 putouts with no errors. Stellar in Amherst's must-win 2-1 victory over Wesleyan, Summers went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a run to help the Purple & White claim the victory.

Amherst returns to action on Friday, May 6 when the Purple & White take on No. 1 seed in the NESCAC East, Tufts University in the NESCAC Championship tournament on the campus of Williams College beginning at 5 p.m.
