CLERMONT, Fla. - The Amherst College softball team dropped its doubleheader Saturday morning as it lost to MIT, 1-0 before falling to Luther College, 10-2.
The Jeffs concluded their spring break trip are now 8-4 on the season. They are scheduled to return to action Wednesday, March 25 to host WPI in a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
GAME 1: MIT 1, AMHERST 0
The Engineers (1-0) won the pitching battle in game one, as they held Amherst to three hits. Jackie Buechler '17 pitched a gem for the Jeffs in the losing effort as she threw a complete game with six strike outs and just one unearned run. She only surrendered three hits.
GAME 2: LUTHER 10, AMHERST 2 (6 innings)
Luther (19-0) used an eight-run second innning en route to the win, as they added a run in both the fourth and sixth innings. Amherst scored in the first and third inning as Kelsey Ayers '15 scored both runs for the Jeffs and went 2-for-2 from the plate with two singles. Carr went 1-for-3 with a RBI double, while Alyssa Sherwill '15 went 1-for-2 with a double. Brianna Cook '16 was 1-for-3 with a single and a RBI.
Caroline Sealander '15 started in the circle and tossed 2.2 innings. Gina Pagan '18 relieved her and pitched through the fifth inning, while Sealander returned to the game and tossed the bottom of the sixth.
