Amherst Cruises to Consecutive 9-1 Wins

WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – The Amherst College softball team cruised to back-to-back 9-1 wins over Endicott and Worcester State Thursday in Winter Garden, Fla.

The Jeffs (6-1) have won three straight by a combined 25-3. In the first game of the doubleheader, Amherst snapped Endicott's two game winning streak.

Jackie Buechler '17 pitched a gem on the mound for the Jeffs. She threw all five innings, striking out seven and surrendering just six hits. Offensively, classmate Alena Marovitz continued her impressive spring break trip as well to lead Amherst with three hits. She went 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Four other Jeffs recorded multiple-hits. Kaitlin Silkowitz '14 and Kelsey Ayers '15 both went 2-for-4 with a RBI, while Donna Leet '15 and Carolyn Miller '14 went 2-for-4 and 2-for-3, respectively. Nicolette Miranda '16 was 1-for-3 with three RBI, Brianna Cook '16 finished 1-for-3 with a RBI and Alyssa Sherwill '15 added a hit in three at-bats.

Amherst followed up with another 9-1 win in five innings over Worcester State in the second game of the twinbill. Arielle Doering '14 struck out seven batters and allowed just two hits in four innings. Caroline Sealander '15 entered the game in a relief effort and struck out two batters in one inning.

Cook and Miller both went 2-for-3 with two RBI.  Markovitz followed up her three-hit performance in game one with a 2-for-3, three RBI game against Worcester State.  Sherwill finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and Leet went 1-for-3 to round out the top offensive performers for the Jeffs.

Amherst is back in action tomorrow, Mar. 21 for a doubleheader against Western Conn. State (9 a.m.) and SUNY Potsdam (11 a.m.).
