HADLEY, Mass. – Amherst College senior captain Spencer Ferguson-Dryden of the men's cross country team has been named to the All-New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Second Team following his standout performance at the 2019 NESCAC Championships.
The top-seven runners in the men's 8-kilometer race were named to the All-Conference First Team, while the next seven runners to cross the finish line were tabbed Second-Team All-Conference selections.
Pacing the Mammoths in all five races so far this season, Ferguson-Dryden continued his successful final fall donning the Purple & White at the annual league meet - stopping the clock in 26:13.7 to place 14th overall in the 145-harrier race. The performance marked a 10 place bump from his previous top placement and his best-ever finish in three appearances at the Championships.
With the 14th place finish, Ferguson-Dryden has yet to fall outside of the top-20 against D3 competition, with his best finish coming on Oct. 5 at the Paul Short Invitational where he shaved more than 40 seconds off his previous collegiate personal record to post a 24:49.7 mark.
Amherst's sole All-Conference selection, the San Francisco, Calif. native led the Mammoths past three higher nationally ranked squads to a second place team finish - the fifth straight year Amherst has taken either gold or silver at the conference meet - in their final tune up before NCAA Qualifiers.
Ferguson-Dryden and the rest of the Mammoths return to action this Saturday, Nov. 16 when they travel to Bowdoin College for the Division III New England Regionals beginning at 11:00AM.
