No.18 Men's XC Runs to 9th Place Finish In Final Race Before Championship Season

WATERFORD, Conn. – The No. 18 Amherst College men's cross country team recorded a team average 8K time of 25:37 to post a 16-40-53-59-70(72)(77) scoring order and take 9th overall at the 28-team Connecticut College Invitational at Harkness Memorial Park Saturday afternoon.

Returning to action in two weeks' time, Amherst kicks of the Championship season on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they compete in the 2019 NESCAC Championships hosted by Williams College at Mount Greylock High School. 

THE BASICS

  • TEAM RESULT: 9th Overall (238 points)
  • TEAM TOP-THREE: Williams (47 points), MIT (96 points), RPI (149 points)
  • TOP-MAMMOTH: Spencer Ferguson-Dryden '20 (25:07.0 / 16th)
  • TOTAL RUNNERS: 409

MAMMOTH SCORING RUNNERS

  • Stopping the clock at 25:07.0 Ferguson-Dryden led the Mammoths with a 16th place finish, while Bill Massey '21 was just two tenths of a second off his personal best as he crossed the line in 25:29.5 to take 41st overall.
  • Braxton Schuldt '21 earned a 58th place finish, notching a time of 25:44.5.
  • Rounding out Amherst's scoring harriers were Jamie Mazzola '21 and Matthew Bradley '22, with Mazzola clinching 68th with a 25:50.5 mark and Bradley recording a time of 25:57.0 to secure 81st.
