No. 24 Men's Cross Country Nabs 36th Overall at Multi-Division Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Traveling to Lehigh University for the 46th annual Paul Short Run, presented by ASICS, at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, the No. 24 Amherst College men's cross country team registered a 127-185-189-201-234(260)(271) scoring order behind a 25:10 team average 8K time to notch a 36th place finish in the top-tier Gold Division race that featured 39 DI, two DII and four DIII programs.

Returning to action in two weeks' time, Amherst next hits the trails on Saturday, Oct. 19 when they travel to Waterford, Connecticut to compete in the Connecticut College Invitational at Harkness Memorial Park.

MAMMOTH SCORING RUNNERS

  • Executing their race plan and moving up significantly throughout the race to secure a 36th place team finish, the Mammoths gained momentum and confidence to take with them into the second half of the season.
  • Cutting over 40 seconds off his previous PR (25:30.3), Spencer Ferguson-Dryden '20 paced Amherst for the third consecutive meet behind a 4:59.7 average mile. Stopping the clock at 24:49.7, Ferguson-Dryden crossed the finish line 1:32.7 behind the first-place finisher to earn 136th overall.
  • Improving on his time from last weekend's race by over 2:30, Jamie Mazzola '21 registered a time of 25:06.3 to take 198th place.
  • Braxton Schuldt '21 was next across the line for the Mammoths, setting a new personal best to secure 202nd overall (25:08.2).
  • Keon Mazdisnian '23 and Bill Massey '21 rounded out Amherst's scoring harriers, with the first-year notching a 25:13.4 mark to finished 216th and the junior producing a new PR to log a 258th place finish (25:29.3).
