Men’s Cross Country Books Ticket to Nationals with 2nd Place Showing

GORHAM, Maine – The Amherst College men's cross country team finished 2nd in a 55-school field at Saturday's NCAA Division III New England Region Championships, and as a result has earned an automatic berth in the Division III National Championships next weekend.

Leading the way for the Mammoths, currently ranked No. 6 in the country, was Clark Ricciardelli '20, who took fifth place in a field of 370 runners, and completed the 8k course in a time of 25:34.9.

Not far behind, senior Mohamed Hussein was in at 25:41.2, good for eighth place.

Cosmo Brossy '19 ran in 18th place (25:53.2), while Tucker Meijer was also in the top 25 with a time of 25:59.7.

Rounding out the scoring for the Mammoths was Spencer Ferguson-Dryden '20, who was just inside of the top 40 finishers.

Kristian Sogaard '19 (26:22.7) and Jack Wesley '18 (27:01.2) also had strong showings for Amherst in a very large and competitive field.

The championships for both men and women will be held on November 18th at the North Farm Facility in Elsah, Ill. This will be Amherst's eight appearance at the National Championship.

 

Meet Notes

  • The Mammoths finished 5-8-18-21-39 (50) (87), and averaged a time of 25:53, while amassing 91 points.
  • MIT was the meet champion with 81 points and boasted the #3 finisher in Dennis Maloney.
  • Sam Brunnette, a junior from Plymouth State University, won the event with a time of 25:22.8.
