AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College men's and women's track & field team are set to compete in six events at the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, with five individual harriers and one relay team posting qualifying marks during the season to earn a spot in the national meet hosted by UMASS-Boston on March 8-9 at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Mass.
On the women's side, Christina Scartelli '19 and Ella Rossa '21 each earned the right to compete at the national meet, while Kristian Sogaard '19, Clark Ricciardelli '20, Troy Colleran '22 and the distance medley relay quartet qualified to represent the men's team.
For each individual event, the top-20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the national competition, while the top-12 teams in Division III qualify for relay events.
Qualifying for the 3000 meter run, Scartelli secured her first Indoor Nationals appearance after notching a time of 9:45.46 to grab the fourth overall seed in the 20-competitor event. Emily Forner of Allegheny holds the No. 1 seed with a 9:41.15 mark.
Clinching a spot in the 60M hurdles, Rossa will take to the track as the No. 15 seed after performing in the clutch and crossing the finishing line in 8.97 seconds in her final opportunity to record a NCAA qualifying mark at the Tufts Last Chance Meet on March 2.
On the men's side, Sogaard qualified for the national indoor meet in the 800m run for the second consecutive season, registering a time of 1:52.16 to take the No. 11 seed, while Ricciardelli will be representing the Mammoths in the 5000m run as the fourth seed with a mark of 14:19.32.
Amherst will also have a distance medley relay crew donning the Purple & White at the national meet for the second straight year, with Spencer Ferguson-Dryden '20, Ryan Prenosil '21, Ralph Skinner '20 and Cosmo Brossy '19 entering competition as the No. 7 seed behind a time of 9:52.10.
Colleran rounds out the Mammoths' competitors, with the first-year posting a mark of 4738 points in the heptathlon during the regular season to enter the weekend as the No. 18 seed.
