AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College men's track & field team is set to compete in four events at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Championship, with two individual harriers and two relay teams posting qualifying marks during the season to earn a spot in the national meet hosted by Birmingham Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama.
Clinching a time of 1:50.62 on Feb. 24 at the Maine State Open, junior Kristian Sogaard enters the weekend as the No. 2 seed in the 800 meter run - just 0.48 seconds behind top-seed Matt Molinaro of Ohio Northern (1:50.14).
Qualifying for the 3000 meter run, Cosmo Brossy '19 notched a time of 8:19.04 on Feb. 17 at the DIII New England Championships to earn the final slot in the 15-competitor event. Will McDermott of Widener holds the No. 1 seed with an 8:12.42 mark.
One of two Amherst relay teams to make the cut, the Mammoths' 4x400 meter relay quartet of David Ingraham '18, Ryan Prenosil '21, Vernon Espinoza '19 and Sogaard combined to post a time of 3:16.13 on March 3 at the Last Chance Qualifier to secure the No. 10 seed.
The distance medley relay squad of Spencer Ferguson-Dryden '20, Ralph Skinner '20, Jacob Silverman '19 and Brossy rounds out the Mammoths' qualifiers, with the team recording a 9:53.33 mark at the Last Chance Qualifier on March 3 to enter the weekend with the 11th best time in the country.
