NEW ORLEANS, La. – Sophomore Kristian Sogaard of the Amherst College men's outdoor track & field team has been named an U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American, as announced recently by the organization.
Student-athletes garner USTFCCCA All-America honors by virtue of finishing among the top eight in their events, including as a member of a relay, at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio.
Receiving an individual qualifying bid to compete in the national meet in the 800-meter run, Sogaard was the lone underclassman to advance to the nine-runner finals after entering competition as the No. 6 seed (1:50.30) and securing a time of 1:50.76 in the preliminaries. Rising to the occasion in the finals, Sogaard ran the first 400-meters in 56.87 seconds and the final 400-meters in 55.28 seconds to cross the finish line in 1:52.15 and place sixth overall.
