Sogaard Captures Sixth Overall in 800-Meter Run at the NCAA Championships

GENEVA, Ohio – Sophomore standout Kristian Sogaard of the Amherst College men's outdoor track & field team recorded an All-American performance for the Mammoths in the 800-meter run at the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

Owning the No. 6 seed entering the national meet with a 1:50.30 mark, Sogaard notched a time of 1:50.76 in the preliminaries to advance to the 800-meter finals.

"I'm super excited to advance on to the 800m final in my first ever individual NCAA Championship experience. After today's race, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow and the final," said Sogaard. 

The lone underclassman competing in the nine-runner finals, Sogaard rose to the occasion, registering a 56.869 second mark in the first 400-meters and closing out the final 400-meters in 55.276 seconds to cross the finish line in 1:52.15 and place sixth overall with All-America distinction.
