AMHERST, Mass. – Behind several strong performances, the Amherst men's track & field team placed 18th out of 38 Division I, II and III programs at the 2014 NEICAAA Outdoor Championships hosted by Westfield State University.
Southern Connecticut State University took home the top team honor with 108 points, followed by Rhode Island (71), Connecticut (66), Vermont (43) and Tufts (38) in the top-five. Northeastern (36), Boston College (35), Bridgewater State (31), MIT (30) and American International (29) rounded out the top-10.
Setting a meet record, Amherst's 4x800 relay team of Brent Harrison '16, Steven Lucey '17, Romey Sklar '15 and Kevin Connors '17 recorded the Jeffs' lone victory with a top time of 7:33.28. Matt Melton '14 also impressed, taking third in the 400-meter dash (47.71).
Jeff Seelaus '16 paced the Purple & White in the 3000-meter steeplechase, finishing eighth with a time of 9:34.18. Clocking in at 9:47:37, teammate Greg Turissini '15 narrowly missed out on a top-15 showing. KC Fussell '15 was the lone Jeff to compete in the 5000-meter run, turning in a time of 15:21.63.
In the field events, Mark Cort '15 was 12th in the long jump with a leap of 6.34m. Khalil Flemming '16 came in 17th in the triple jump with a mark of 13.23m.
