AMHERST, Mass. – Behind several strong performances, the Amherst men's track & field team placed second at the 2014 Little Three Championships.
Williams took home the team title with 159 points, followed by Amherst (128) and Wesleyan (82). The Jeffs return to action on Saturday, Apr. 26 at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Colby College.
Matt Melton '14 won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.30, while finishing second in the 200m (22.16) and third in the high jump (1.83m). Also enjoying a solid afternoon, Jamie Sandel '17 rose to the top of the podium in the 400-meter hurdles (57.55), while coming in second in the 110-meter hurdles (16.15).
Jeff Seelaus '16 and Kevin Connors '17 were one-two in the 3000-meter steeplechase with times of 9:56.98 and 10:02.18, respectively. Dan Crowley '16 and Greg Turissini '15 placed first (15:20.81) and second (15:47.29) in the 5000-meter run, while Romey Sklar '15 and Thomas Matthew '16 placed third in the 100-meter dash (11.29) and 800-meter run (1:54.81).
Headlining the field events, Mark Cort '15 won the long jump with a leap of 6.87m, while Stephen Hetterich '15 was the event's runner-up (6.38m). Hetterich picked up the victory in the triple jump (12.86m), while Rob Perdoni '16 came in third in the shot put (12.58m). Josiah Terrell-Perica '15 finished second in the javelin (43.09), while Dennis Kennelly '16 placed third (41.02m).
