EASTON, Mass. - Andrew Erskine '13 placed seventh in the 5000m run to lead the Amherst men's track and field team at the All-New England Championships hosted by Stonehill College.
Earning the Jeffs two team points, the senior clocked in at 14:49.84, just over a second behind NESCAC rival Bryan Marsh of Wesleyan. Nick Codola '15, Brent Harrison '16, Romey Sklar '15 and Pat Grimes '13 accounted for Amherst's only other point with a ninth-place showing in the 4x800 relay (7:42.80).
Also competing in the 1500m run, Grimes finished 10th with a time of 3:55.81, followed closely by teammate Greg Turissini '15 (3:59.00). Dillon Buckley '13 was 13th in the steeplechase (9:40.33), while Charlie Reighard '14 came in 16th (9:44.75). Matt Melton '14 ran in the 800m, placing 19th at 1:54.23.
Southern Connecticut State took home the team title with 159 points, with host Stonehill (66), Northeastern (62.50), Bates (61) and Boston College (56) rounding out the top-five. Tufts came in sixth (47), with Sacred Heart (40), MIT (36.50), New Hampshire (35) and UMass-Lowell (29.50) finishing seventh through 10th. Amherst placed 34th (3) out of the 37 Division I, II and III programs in attendance.
