WATERVILLE, Maine - Matt Melton '14 finished third in the 400m dash as the Amherst men's track & field team put forth a 17th-place showing at the Division III New England Championships hosted by Colby College.
Lagging just over four tenths of a second behind the pace set by MIT's William Lee, Melton crossed the tape with a time of 48.63. Patrick Grimes '13 put together a solid race in the 800m run, finishing seventh with a time of 1:52.98, while Romey Sklar '15 came in 14th (1:54.66).
Doing well in the 5,000m run, Andrew Erskine '13 was seventh, clocking in at 15:00.03, while Greg Turissini '15 and Charlie Reighard '14 led Amherst in the 3000-meter steeplechase, placing 11th (9:42.91) and 12th (9:43.26), respectively.
In the field events, Josiah Terrell-Perica '15 placed fifth in the javelin with a throw of 56.76m, while coming in 12th in the discus (40.72m).
Bates took home the team title with a score of 144, edging out MIT (143). Tufts (71), Williams (60) and Coast Guard (46) finished second through fifth, while Worcester State (38), RIC (36), Westfield State (33), Bowdoin (32) and Middlebury (31) rounded out the top-10. Amherst (15), placed 17th in a field that featured 26 programs.
