MEDFORD, Mass. - Behind a strong showing in the 5,000-meter run, the Amherst men's outdoor track & field team placed 12th out of 24 Division I, II and III teams at the Tufts University Snowflake Classic.
Charlie Reighard '14 paved the way in the 5,000m, finishing just five tenths of a second (15:08.50) behind the pace set by Brandeis' Ed Colvin. Teammate Dillon Buckley '13 took third with a time of 15:10.20, while KC Fussell '15 slid into fourth (15:11.10). Crossing the tape in 15:19.00, Patrick Grimes '13 came in sixth, while Greg Turissini '15 (15:40.60) rounded out a group of five Jeffs in the top-11.
Holding his own in the 400m hurdles, Lucas Lebovitz '15 placed 15th with a time of 1:02.75, while Persie Gijima '14, Khalil Fleming '16, Ralph Washington '16 and Javier Paulino '14 helped the 4x100 relay clock in at 44.84 - good for ninth. Also competing in the triple jump, Fleming was one of three Jeffs in the top-11 (12.27m).
Steven Hetterich '15 paced the trio, finishing eighth (12.37m), followed closely by Mark Cort '15 in ninth (12.32m). With the fifth farthest throw in the javelin (51.90m), Josiah Terrell-Perica '15 also recorded a 10th-place showing (40.13m) in the discus, while senior Denzel Duncan's toss of 39.20m ranked 15th. Duncan also excelled in the hammer throw (45.40m - 9th) and shot put (12.22m -13th).
Tallying 110 points, Northeastern took the team title, followed by host Tufts (104), Bridgewater St. (85.25), Harvard (56.50) and Brown (49) in the top-five. UMass-Boston (48), Franklin Pierce (47) and Southern Maine (43.75) came in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, while Worcester State (43.25) and Merrimack (38) rounded out the top-10.
