Amherst Teams Each Win One Event at UMass Minuteman Invite

AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College outdoor track and field teams each won an event Saturday afternoon at the UMass Minuteman Initational. The Lord Jeffs will return to action next Saturday when they host the Little Three Championships. 

The Amherst men got their win in the 4x400-meter relay, as Andrew Reed '12 (Riverside, CT), Tommy Moore '11 (Marlborough, MA), Matt Melton '14 (Wall, NJ) and Ben Scheetz '12 (Lancaster, PA) ran a 3:21.39. Scheetz would also take the runner-up spot in the 400-meter dash (48.61), followed by Reed in seventh (50.62). 

Amherst's win on the women's side came in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, where Tori Sosnowski '14 (Amherst, NY) bested the field with a time of 11:33.23. Keri Lambert '13 (Amherst, MA) took second place in the 1500 (4:49.21), while Sarah Daly '13 (Wheaton, IL) was fourth in the 5,000-meter run (18:20.34). Also excelling in the 5k were Kristen Moulton '13 (North Reading, MA) and Elodie Reed '13 (Bow, NH), who placed sixth (18:26.25) and seventh (18:27.24), respectively.  

Chris Eaton '11 (Brooklyn, NY) led Amherst in the field events by placing second in the hammer throw with a mark of 49.42 meters. Jordan Roehl '12 (Portales, NM) took eighth in the women's shot put (10.52m) and hammer throw (36.00m), while Naomi Bates '14 (Washington, DC) was the runner-up in the triple jump (10.82m). 

Corsello and Melton finished fifth (1:55.92) and 10th (1:57.54) in the 800, while John McGrail '11 (Arlington, VA) was 10th in the 1500 (4:06.93). Javier Paulino '14 (New York, NY) placed fifth in the 100-meter dash (11.54) and ninth in the 200 (23.55), and Patrick Grimes '13 (Mansfield, MA) finished third in the 5k (15:19.52). 

The 800-meter run saw three top-10 finishes for the Amherst women, with Melissa Sullivan '12 (Dallas, TX), Lauren Almeida '13 (Reading, MA) and Lambert placing sixth (2:21.44), ninth (2:22.62) and 10th (2:22.86), respectively. Susan Wasserman '11 (Brooklyn, NY) finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:08.26), while Shyloe Jones '14 (Cranston, RI) was eighth in the 200-meter dash (27.71) and 11th in the 100 (13.45).
