  • Amherst Track Places 24 on NESCAC All-Academic, All-Sportsmanship Teams

    The NESCAC has announced its Spring All-Sportsmanship and All-Academic Teams for each sport sponsored by the conference. In addition to its eight All-Sportsmanship honorees, Amherst College placed a conference-high 67 student-athletes on the All-Academic squad.
  • Amherst Wraps NCAAs with Two More All-America Performances

    Two men and one woman from the Amherst College Track and Field teams took the oval at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio for the final day of the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track Championships. Amherst wrapped up the weekend with another pair of All-America performances from juniors Will Yochum (Goleta, CA) and Steven Corsello (Skaneateles, NY) in the men’s 1,500-Meter Run Finals.
  • Three Jeffs Compete on Day Two of NCAA Championships

    Three members of the Amherst College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed on day two of the NCAA Division III Championships at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio. The Lord Jeffs will wrap up their season Saturday afternoon when three runners take part in the 1,500-meter run.
  • Two Lord Jeffs Earn All-America Honors at Day One of NCAAs

    The Amherst College men’s and women’s track and field teams each got off to very impressive starts this afternoon at the opening day of the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Baldwin-Wallace College. A trio of competitors earned spots in finals heats on Saturday, while a pair of Lord Jeffs earned All-America Honors.

    The Amherst College men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled to the campus of Northeastern University this weekend to compete in the 2010 New England Open Championships against competitors from the NCAA’s Divisions I, II and III. A handful of Lord Jeff athletes performed well enough to earn provisional status for the upcoming Division III NCAA Championships.
  • Galleher Wins 5k at DIII New England Championships

    Sophia Galleher '10 won the 5,000-meter run to lead the Amherst College track and field teams at the Division III New England Championships. The Amherst men placed fifth in a field of 25 teams, while the Amherst women finished in eighth place.
  • Lord Jeff Track Teams Earn 20 All-NESCAC Selections

    Following the completion of the NESCAC Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Championships at Tufts University last weekend, the conference has announced the 2010 All-NESCAC Team this afternoon. The top three finishers in each event during the championship receive All-Conference recognition, with Amherst earning a conference-high 14 nominees on the men’s side to go along with six on the women’s team.
  • Amherst Teams Combine for Six Wins at NESCAC Championships

    The Amherst College men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams combined for six individual victories Saturday afternoon at the 2010 NESCAC Championships, which were held at Tufts University’s Dussault Track and Field Complex. The Lord Jeff men put in the best performance in program history by placing fourth with 100 points, while the women finished seventh with 57 points.
  • Dan Murner '10 Runs to Third Place in 10-K Event at Penn Relays

    Amherst College senior Dan Murner (Crestwood, KY) was seeded in the middle of a field of nearly 40 competitors in the 10,000 meter run at the 2010 Penn Relays, but ran his best race of the season to finish on the podium in third place last night. Murner’s time of 29:45.02 will automatically qualify him for the 2010 Division III National Championships, while also breaking his own school record by nearly a full minute.
  • Track and Field Teams Host Mid-Week Meet

    The Amherst College men's and women's track and field teams hosted participants from Trinity, Williams and WPI this afternoon for a mid-week meet on campus. There was no team scoring to the event.

    On a day in which unfavorable conditions prevented any spectacular times or distances, the Amherst College outdoor track and field teams each placed second at the Little Three Championships, hosted by Williams College. Competitors were met with a constant drizzle, cold temperatures and lightning.

    The Amherst College men's and women's track and field teams each placed seventh at the UMass Amherst Spring Meet. Daniel Murner '10 won the men's 5k, while Sophia Galleher '10 and Ali Simeone '13 won the steeplechase and 10k, respectively, to lead the Lord Jeff women.

    Twenty-one members of the Amherst College men's and women's indoor track and field teams earned NESCAC Winter All-Academic honors, the conference announced today. To earn All-Academic recognition, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.35.

    Sophia Galleher '10 won the 10,000-meter run to lead Amherst College at Westfield State's second annual Jerry Gravel Track and Field Classic. The Lord Jeff women placed third in a field of 18 teams in the 2010 season opener, while the Amherst men finished eighth in a field of 16.
  • Lord Jeffs Earn Four Top-5 Finishes at NCAA Championships

    The Amherst College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams wrapped up competition at the 2010 NCAA Championships Saturday afternoon at DePauw University. The Lord Jeff men used three top-five finishes to land in a tie for seventh place, marking the team’s best finish since 1998. The Amherst women used a fourth place performance in the mile run to tie for 40th place.

    The Amherst College men's distance medley relay team placed fifth in day one of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Will Yochum '11 and Melissa Sullivan '12 each qualified for Saturday's final heat in the mile run, while Dan Murner '10 will compete in Saturday's 5,000-meter run.     The Amherst College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams each wrapped up action at the two-day NEICAAA Track and Field Championships this afternoon on the campus of Boston University. The “Open” New England’s annually feature teams from the NCAA’s Divisions I, II and III, with both Amherst squads landing in the top-15 at today’s conclusion. The Lord Jeff men’s and women’s teams were each edged by just one Division III team within the deep field, placing 12th and 15th overall, respectively.

    The Amherst College indoor track and field teams split up this weekend to compete in the Division III New England Championships. The Lord Jeff men won three events to place fourth in a field of 22 teams on the campus of Bates College, while the Amherst women finished eighth among 25 schools at the University of Southern Maine.

    The Amherst College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams each traveled to face opponents from the NCAA’s Divisions I, II and III yesterday afternoon in the 2010 Reebok Boston Indoor Games at Northeastern University’s Reggie Lewis Center. Among a tough field of competitors, Amherst’s men finished fifth out of 18 teams, while the Lord Jeff women placed 12th out of 17 squads.

    In their first scoring meets of the season, the Amherst College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams each placed third at the 2010 Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational at Brandeis University. The Lord Jeffs will return to action Saturday, Jan. 23, when they head to Wesleyan University for a 10 a.m. meet.
