SPRINGFIELD, MA – Rookie Liz Dalton (Wayne, PA) posted the highest finish of the day for Amherst College, as the men's and women's track and field teams competed at the ECAC Championships over the weekend. Dalton's 39:55.23 showing in the 10,000-meter run was good for second place and half of the team's 16 points, while classmate Peter Foote (Shelburne, VT) got a point for Amherst on the men's side, taking eighth-place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:42.31.
Sophomore Laura Mortimer (Jackson, MS) finished less the a minute after Dalton in the 10K, earning eighth place, while junior Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) and sophomore Meg Ray (Menands, NY) posted a 7-8 finish 1.71 seconds apart in the 1,500-meter run. Rookie Zandra Walton (Skaneateles, NY) posted a strong eighth-place showing in the 800-meter run, while junior Maria Millard (Orono, ME) and rookies Elise Tropiano (New York, NY) and Nicole Anderson (Kailua, HI) each earned 10th-place honors, in the 400-meter hurdles, 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run, respectively.
Juniors Rob Boley (Mount Pleasant, MI) and Rich Wilson (Columbus, OH) rounded out a strong Amherst showing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, crossing the tape just three and seven seconds behind Foote, respectively, for 10th and 12th place. Sophomore Mike Harbus (New York, NY) took 15th in the 5,000-meter run, while junior Sam Hayman (Evanston, IL) finished 21st in the 800-meter run.
Garrahan and sophomores Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA) and Kim Partee (Brentwood, TN) will compete at the 2006 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships hosted by Benedictine University in Lisle Lisle, Illinois May 25-27.
