AMHERST, MA – The Amherst College men's and women's track teams dominated at a home midweek track meet with Trinity College and Keene State College on Tuesday afternoon, as the women swept the track races and the men won four each of the track and field events.
Rookie Kathryn Loomis (Glastonbury, CT) turned out a stellar afternoon, winning the 100-meter dash in 13.00 and the 100-meter hurdles in 17.38. Junior Hannah Campbell (Garnerville, NY) was the other double individual winner for the Jeffs, besting the 200- and 400-meter dash fields. Classmate Maria Millard (Orono, ME) finished the 400-meter hurdles course in 1:07.31, also good for a first place finish, while first-year Zandra Walton (Skaneateles, NY) bested her closet competitor by nearly nine seconds in the 800-meter run. Junior Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) also posted a wide win, crossing the 1,500-meter tape in 4:36.01, 18 seconds ahead of teammate and second-place finisher sophomore Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA).
On the men's side, junior Nick Canevari (Warwick, NY) posted wins in the discus throw and shot put, while classmate Robert Boley (Mount Pleasant, MI) won the high jump and senior co-captain Tim Porter (Newton, MA) earned victory in the triple jump. Meanwhile, juniors Sam Hayman (Evanston, IL) and John Babbott (Ojai, CA) bested the 800- and 1,500-meter run fields in 1:57.46 and 4:03.39, respectively. Sophomore Basile Beaty (Belmont, MA) won the 400-meter run (51.11) and rookie Peter Foote (Shelburne, VT) won the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.05).
The Jeffs return to action Saturday at the Little Three Championships hosted by Wesleyan University at noon.
