Amherst Women 10th, Men 20th at Open New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships

DURHAM, NH - Senior All-Americas Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) and Mike Page (Fargo, ND) led the Amherst College women's and men's outdoor track and field teams to respective 10th- and 20th-place finishes at the Open New England Championships, hosted by the University of New Hampshire over the weekend. Hamill grabbed the women's 5,000-meter title with a time of 16:51.71, while Page posted a second-place showing in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, racing to a 9:09.50 finish. 

Amherst junior Margaret Davis (Richmond, VA) earned NCAA provisional qualification in the 10,000-meter run, finishing in 37:03.67, and sophomore All-America Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) placed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:58.02. Senior co-captain Lee-Jay Henry (Springfield, MA) claimed fourth and fifth in the triple jump and long jump, respectively, marking 11.55 meters in the triple and 5.46 meters in the long. 

Senior Jack Morgan (Las Vegas, NV), sophomores Sam Hayman (Evanston, IL) and John Babbott (Ojai, CA) and first-year Rom Cabeza (Enfield, CT) teamed for a sixth-place showing in the 4x800-meter relay, and Morgan grabbed 12th place in the 800-meter run. Senior Matt Katz (Tallahassee, FL) finished the 5,000-meter run in 15:41.74. 

Both squads return to action Thursday at noon at the ECAC Championships, hosted by Springfield College.
