HARTFORD, CT - The Amherst College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams posted a number of stellar performances at the Trinity College Invitational on Saturday.
For the women, senior Lee-Jay Henry (Springfield, MA) captured first place in the long jump and grabbed second place finishes in both the triple jump and the 100-meter hurdles, while All-America classmate Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) took first in the 5,000-meter run, qualifying automatically for the NCAA Championships with a time of 16:55.22, and placed second in the 1,500-meter run. Sophomore All-America Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA), meanwhile, finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, qualifying provisionally for nationals (10:55.78), and also took first in the 800-meter run. Junior All-America Ginger Polich (Ironwood, MI) placed fourth and sixth in the 800-meter run and the 1,500-meter run, respectively, while senior Alison Rodriguez (Albany, NY) posted a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, first-year Katie Moravec (Chico, CA) placed third in the 5,000-meter run, and sophomore Nzingha Tyehemba (New York, NY) finished fourth and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles and the 100-meter hurdles, respectively. Sophomore Keyonte Sutherland (Brooklyn, NY) took sixth in the 200-meter dash, while juniors Margaret Davis (Richmond, VA) and Julia Rucker (Minneapolis, MN) placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run and the 400-meter dash, respectively. Junior Krissy Morin (Litchfield, NH) took sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and 10th in the shot put, sophomore Maria Millard (Orono, ME) placed eighth and ninth in the high jump and the 100-meter hurdles, respectively, and first-year Ellie Tarlow (New York, NY) grabbed eighth in the 400-meter dash. The 4x400-meter relay squad of Garrahan, Henry, Rucker and Sutherland captured second place.
On the men's side, senior All-America Mike Page (Fargo, ND) captured first place in the 5,000-meter run, sophomore All-America John Babbott (Ojai, CA) took second and sixth in the 1,500-meter run and the 800-meter run, respectively, and first-year Tomas Morrissey (Astoria, OR) placed third in the 5,000-meter run, setting a new freshman school record (15:24.79). Senior Matt Katz (Tallahassee, FL) placed third in the 1,500-meter run, junior Nick Canevari (Warwick, NY) placed third in the discus and ninth in the shot put and sophomore Sam Hayman (Evanston, IL) took fifth in the 800-meter run. First-year Mike Harbus (New York, NY), sophomore Cooper Knowlton (Montclair, NJ) and junior Evan Guiney (Cooperstown, NY) finished seventh, ninth and 10th in the 5,000-meter run, while sophomore Jon Ettinger (Bethesda, Maryland) took ninth in both the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. First-year Rom Cabeza (Enfield, CT) teamed with Babbott, Ettinger and Hayman to place sixth in the 4x400-meter relay.
Both teams return to action this Saturday at the UMass-Lowell Invitational.
