Amherst Women's Indoor Track and Field Third at Division III New England Championships, Men 21st

NORTHAMPTON, MA & MEDFORD, MA - Amherst College sophomore and senior All-Americas Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) and Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) combined for four first-place performances at the Women's Division III New England Championships, hosted by Smith College over the weekend, leading the women's indoor track and field team to a third-place overall finish. The men's team, paced by senior All-America Jack Morgan's (Las Vegas, NV) fourth-place showing in the 800-meter dash, took 21st at the Men's Division III New England Championships, held at Tufts University. 

Garrahan edged her nearest competitors in both the 1,000-meter run and the 1,500-meter run, grabbing first in both events with respective times of 2:59.40 and 4:38.38. Hamill cruised to a 14-second victory in the 5,000-meter run (17:38.02) and sped to a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter run (9:42.02). Junior All-America Ginger Polich (Ironwood, MI) captured second place in the 800-meter run (2:17.10), while first-years Heather Wilson (Danvers, MA) and Laura Mortimer (Jackson, MS) and senior Alison Rodriguez (Albany, NY) placed sixth, 10th, and 12th, respectively, in the 3,000-meter run. First-year Vanessa Sochat (Amherst, NH) teamed with Garrahan, Hamill and Polich to take second in the 4x800-meter relay, while senior Lee-Jay Henry (Springfield, MA), senior Julia Rucker (Minneapolis, MN), junior Lyndsey Scott (West Orange, NJ) and sophomore Hannah Campbell (Garnerville, NY) captured fifth in the 4x200-meter relay and second in the 4x400-meter relay. 

For the men, Morgan finished in 1:55.94, crossing the line just under a second back from first place. Senior Matt Katz (Tallahassee, FL) and first-year Tomas Morrissey (Astoria, OR) each grabbed respective ninth-place finishes in the 1,500-meter run (4:04.45) and 3,000-meter run (8:48.22), while sophomore John Babbott (Ojai, CA) took 11th in the 800-meter run and senior All-America Mike Page (Fargo, ND) finished 12th in the 1,500-meter run. Morgan and Katz joined sophomore Sam Hayman (Evanston, IL) and first-year Rom Cabeza (Enfield, CT) to nab third place in the distance medley relay (10:28.71). 

Amherst returns to action this weekend at the Open New England Championships, held at Boston University on Friday and Saturday.
