MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Amherst College men's and women's indoor track teams grabbed 11 first-place finishes at the Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday. Senior Mike Page (Fargo, ND) took home individual wins in the 1,500- and 3,000-meter runs to lead the men, while sophomore Shauneen Garrahan (Fairfax Station, VA) paced the women with victories at 800 and 1,500 meters.
Page led a 1-2-3 finish for the Jeffs in each of his events, topping senior Matt Katz (Tallahassee, FL) and first-year Tomas Morrissey (Astoria, OR) in the 1,500, and besting senior David Molina (Cleveland, OH) and sophomore Cooper Knowlton (Montclair, NJ) in the 3,000. Sophomore John Babbott (Ojai, CA) and senior Jack Morgan (Las Vegas, NV) posted a 1-2 finish in the 800, while junior Evan Guiney (Cooperstown, NY) outraced sophomore Robert Boley (Mount Pleasant, MI) in the 5,000. The men also grabbed a 1-2 finish in the 4x800-meter relay as Morrissey, Babbott, Molina and first-year Ben Read (Barkhamstead, CT) edged Katz, Morgan, first-year Rom Cabeza (Enfield, CT) and junior Billy McNitt (Winnetka, IL).
On the women's side, senior Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA), sophomore Hannah Campbell (Garnerville, NY) and junior Ginger Polich (Ironwood, MI) joined Garrahan with individual wins. Hamill, who followed Garrahan in the 1,500 with a second-place finish, led a 1-2 finish of her own in the 3,000, just ahead of classmate Ali Rodriguez. Campbell topped the field in the 200 and earned a third-place finish in the 55-meter dash, while Polich took home victory in the 1,000. The women posted a 1-2 finish in the 4x800-meter relay as well as Polich, Rodriguez and first-years Laura Mortimer (Jackson, MS) and Lauren Benson (Hamilton, NJ) bested Garrahan and rookies Katie Moravec (Chico, CA), Sophie Turrell (Rye, NY) and Lucy Sheehan (Longmeadow, MA).
Both squads return to action Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Tufts Invitational.
