Jeffs Open Indoor Track Slate at Northeastern Husky Carnival

BOSTON, MA - Amherst College senior Carter Hamill (Richmond, VA) opened the indoor track and field season with a blazing time of 16:58.54 in the 5k - an automatic qualifying time for the women's NCAA Championship meet - at Northeastern's Husky Winter Carnival, held at the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday. Sophomore Jon Ettinger (Chevy Chase, MD) led the Amherst men with an 18th-place showing in the 500-meter dash. 

Amherst junior Lyndsey Scott (West Orange, NJ) captured 14th in the 400-meter dash (1:01.73) and 44th in the 200-meter dash (28.33) for the women's team, while first-year Sophie Turrell (Rye, NY) netted 18th in the 800-meter run (2:34.29) and sophomore Hannah Campbell (Garnerville, NY) posted 19th- and 39th-place showings in the 55-meter dash preliminaries (7.69) and the 200-meter dash (27.93), respectively. First-year Ellie Tarlow (New York, NY) took 51st and 85th in the 55-meter prelims (8.47) and the 200-meter dash (30.92), junior Julia Rucker (Minneapolis, MN) placed 80th in the 200-meter dash (30.60) and the 4x400-meter relay squad of Campbell, Tarlow, Rucker and Scott finished 19th (4:25.20). 

On the men's side, Amherst junior Tim Porter (Newton, MA) placed 22nd in the 500-meter dash (1:11.48), while first-year Rom Cabeza (Enfield, CT), sophomore Sam Hayman (Evanston, IL) and first-year Ben Read (Barkhamstead, CT) took 22nd (2:03.14), 26th (2:03.77) and 41st (2:13.36), respectively, in the 800-meter run. Sophomore Geoff Stricsek (Harrison City, PA) grabbed 42nd in the 400-meter dash and joined Cabeza, Ettinger and senior Doug Norton (Newton, MA) to finish 18th in the 4x400-meter relay. 

Both squads return to action on Saturday, January 15, at the Wesleyan Invitational.
