Travelling down Route 9 to Northampton, men's and women's track and field qualified two runners for Nationals. Rob Mitchell (Worcester, VT) clocked a 3:51.99 in the 1500 to surpass the NCAA qualifying time, while senior Captain Amanda Weiss (Larchmont, NY) recovered from taking GMATs in the morning to break her own record in the 3000 with a 10:05.43 and earn an automatic bid to Nationals.
Highlights for the men included claiming five of the top six places in the 3000 behind Donald Baril (Perrysburg, OH), Aaron Beim (Princeton, NJ), Mike Morris (New City, NY), Chris Thunen (Briarcliff Manor, NY) and Mike Lovenheim (Rochester, NY). Baril also finished behind Mitchell in the 1500, but in a time of 4:03.41. Jeffrey Willis (Kobe, Japan) and Allen Nunnally (Stoneham, MA) earned 2-3 honors in the 800, while triple-jumper Glenn Johnson (New Haven, CT) took 1st with a distance of 12.64 meters.
The women's 800 placed six runners, including Rachael Holloway (Lake Oswego, OR) and Arianne Sperry (Portland, OR) at 2nd and 3rd. Holloway also teamed up with Anne Bertkau (Wilton, CT), Kate Rob (Montpelier, VT)and Jen Almiron (New City, NY) for a top-finish in the 4x400 relay in 3:59.90. Rob and Bertkau took 2nd and 3rd in the 100 hurdles, while Almiron claimed 2nd in the 400 in 1:00.79. Rob's 26.83 in the 200 was just 0.11 seconds off the top-time in the race.
