2/26/96 Here are the results from the men's New England Open Championships-- a Division I, II, and II meet. Mario Watts won the 400 meter dash with a time of 47.77. That is a school record and it qualifies him for the NCAA Champioships On March 9th (indoor). Donald Baril ran a 15:16.70 in the 5000 meter run, good for 7th place in the finals. Robert Mitchell ran a 1:56.73 in the 800 meter sprint, which was not fast enough to qualify for the finals. In the distance medley, Hung, Mitchell, Nunnally, and Baril combined for a 15:16.70, goo for 17th place. In the 4x800 relay, Hung, Nunnaly, Baril, and Mitchell combined for a 8:07.98-- 14th place.
Next Saturday is the ECAC Open Championships at Wheaton.
2/19/96 The results from the women's New England Division III Championships are in. Amherst finished 13th as a team and had a number of runners finish well. In the 55 meter dash , Rachel Holloway finished in sixth place with a 7.77. She also finished 5th in the 400 meter sprint with a 61.77 and 5th in the 200 meter run with a 27.12. Eve MacKnight finished fifth in the 800 meter sprint with a 2.23.73. Amanda Weisss finished 4th in the 1500 meter run with a 4:53.69. Both of AMherst's relay teams finished 5th as well. Kate Rob, Jen Almiron, Liz Chung and Rachel Holloway finished 1:51.11 in the 4x200 meter sprint. Kate Rob, Jen Almiron, Rachel Holloway, and Linnea Leaver finished the 4x400 meter sprint with a 4:14.65
2/18/96 The results from the New England Division III Championships are in. They were held yesturday at Brandeis University. Amherst finished 11th as a team. Individually, they received some strong performances. Here are some of them: Mario Watts finished second in the 500 meter run with a time of 1:03.44. Robert Mitchell finished 5th in the 800 meter run with a 1:59.55. Donald Baril finished 4th in the 3000 meter run with a 8:47.69. William Hancock finished 9th in the 5000 meter run with a 16:05.96. Amherst finished 5th as a team in the 4x800 meter relay with a 8:10.37. Rob Shur finished 6th in the shotput with a throw of 13.77 meters (45-02.25 feet). When I get the women's results, I will post them.
2/12/96 With Division III New England's coming up next weekend, the Amherst men's and women's indoor track teams will be sending a number of both runners and throwers. For the men, Mario Watts will run the 400 m. sprint. In his first year of indoor competition at Amherst, Watts has qualified for the Div. III New Englands, the Div. III ECACs, the Open ECACs, the NCAAs and the IC4As. Also running this weeking will be freshman Rob Mitchell in the 800 meter sprint and Danald Baril in the 1500, 3000 and 5000 meter events. Rob Schur will throw the shotput this weekend as well
The women's team will also send a number of runners. All-American Amanda Weiss will compete in the 1000, 15000 and 3000 meter events, while the team of Rachel Holloway (55 m, 200 m, 400 m), Kate Rob (55 m hurdles), Jen Almiron and Liz Chang will compete in the 4x200 meter relay. Eve McKnight and LeneaLeavar (55 m hurdles) will compete for a sport in the 4x400 relay team with Holloway, Rob, and Almiron. Freshman Nelltje Berens will compete in the shotput and high jump as well.
