LUDLOW, Mass. -- Amherst College won their ninth consecutive match and stayed undefeated in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's tennis play when they defeated #10 Williams College 5-4 on Saturday afternoon at Ludlow Tennis Center.
Amherst improves to 14-2 on the year and 6-0 in NESCAC play, while the Ephs fall to 7-6 (4-2 NESCAC).
Doubles play got the Mammoths off on the right foot, as the home team swept the competition to take a 3-0 lead.
Williams took two points with wins at #5 and #2 singles, but William Turchetta '22 and Sean Wei '21 secured the victory for Amherst with a 5-2 scoreline.
The scoreline might have been more convincing, but Jayson Fung '20 and Zach Bessette '19 retired with the win already in the books for the Mammoth, who have a quick turnaround before a 10:00 AM match tomorrow at #5 Wesleyan.
